ECPPC welcomes new member: Switzerland Arts Publishing house Ides et Calendes
For more than 60 years, Ides et Calendes contributes to the development of art book in Switzerland and throughout Europe. The history of this little house is unusual. The trace amounts, first, trigger some of the major figures of literary France at a time when it was voiceless, silenced by the German occupation. Founded in 1941 by lawyer Fred Uhler Neuchatel to revive freedom of thought and expression and defend the French letters, Ides et Calendes was indeed one of the staging of the French edition during the war. She had the privilege of inclusion in its catalog of great new books and host in Neuchâtel some famous poets and novelists. Publications from Ides et Calendes in modern art is equally remarkable. By the early 1960s, Fred Uhler, followed in 1980 by his successor Alain Bouret, patiently built a veritable reference library, clearing areas largely neglected by the major art publishers and including case studies, surveys or catalogs drawn most often in close collaboration with artists.
Ides et Calendes has a wide range of arts books, such as catalogs, which is comprehensive presentations of all of the work of many artists; monographs, offering comprehensive and detailed studies on very specific topics; small luxury collection; collections of photo-archives, access to the richness and diversity of artistic expressions photography…Throughout the years, their works of typography and graphic perfection has earned them numerous awards in Switzerland and abroad. The books of Ides et Calendes are most often established in close collaboration with artists, and allow a newly informed public amateur or understand or to discover artists, contemporary or confirmed, they are devoted.
Ides et Calendes has a backlist of more than one hundred eighty titles and published about 15 titles per year. As an arts publishing house aiming to promote French culture at the very beginning, the joining of Ides et Calendes into ECPPC will strength our advantage in arts books, especially French arts books. Inspirees, who ECPPC is affiliated, will be the exclusive representative for Ides et Calendes for the Great China. More information can be found at www.ecppc.com and www.idesetcalendes.eu
Ides et Calendes
